The Foundation

Stiftung Völkerschlachtdenkmal Leipzig, the Foundation of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations Leipzig, owns the monument. This foundation was established in 2002 and is a municipal foundation under public law of the City of Leipzig with a board of directors, an advisory board and a management board.

The objectives of the foundation comprise the monument-specific promotion of arts and culture, historic preservation and the preservation of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations.

Main aspects of the work of the foundation are

• the modernisation, restoration and maintenance of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations and its grounds in line with the requirements for the protection of historic monuments,
• the preservation and presentation of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations as a memorial for the victims of the Battle of the Nations and as a monument to national unity and self-determination as well as
• establishing the profile of the monument as a contemporary symbol of peace, freedom and reconciliation in Europe.
