Pop-up Staircase Cinema at the Monument to the Battle of the Nations: The Silent Satellites
For all those who prefer staying on the steps of the giant monument rather than climbing them, we have launched a “Pop-up Staircase Cinema” together with the Schaubühne Lindenfels. In August and September we will be showing two selected films with a connection to Leipzig. It begins with the drama “The Silent Satellites” by Thomas Stuber based on a book by Clemens Meyer.
“They are quiet encounters on the outskirts of the city that, away from the city lights, make you forget the heaviness of everyday life for a moment. Night after night, the inconspicuous people return to the places of their longing: snack bar owner Jens falls in love with his neighbor Aischa over a nightly cigarette in the stairwell, while security guard Erik develops feelings for the young Marika on his routine tour of the foreigners’ dormitory. Cleaner Christa also seeks comfort at the side of hairdresser Birgitt after the end of her shift. Three stories, one common wish: a spark of love, a touch of affection and a feeling of security.” (Germany 2022, 120 min, German original version, FSK 12, with Martina Gedeck, Nastassja Kinski, Charly Hübner)
Cost: 7 EUR (unit price)
Reservations under service@schaubuehne.com, tickets on sale from 8 PM Uhr
Location: in front of the water basin, right staircase
Since the summer nights can be relatively cool even in August, we recommend bringing blankets, jackets and seat cushions!

Pop-up Staircase Cinema at the Monument to the Battle of the Nations: When We Dreamed
For all those who prefer staying on the steps of the giant monument rather than climbing them, we have launched a “Pop-up Staircase Cinema” together with the Schaubühne Lindenfels. In August and September we will be showing two selected films with a connection to Leipzig. The finale is the drama “When We Dreamded” by Andreas Dresen based on a book by Clemens Meyer.
“When we dreamed, the outskirts of Leipzig were the world. The GDR was gone and we were still there. Pitbull wasn’t a dealer yet. Mark wasn’t dead yet. Rico was the greatest boxer and Star was the most beautiful girl, but she didn’t love me as much as I loved her. Everything turned out differently. But it was our best time. // Dani, Mark, Rico, Pitbull and Paul live in the rush of a special time. Years in which societies and systems collide and everything, really everything, seems possible. The boys are thirteen when the story begins in the GDR and seventeen when it ends in the new Germany.” (Germany 2015, 117 min, German original version, FSK 12, with Merlin Rose, Julius Nitschkopf, Joel Basman, Marcel Heuperman, Frederic Haselon)
