Guided Tour: Discover the Monument to the Battle of the Nations
Let us tell you about the eventful history of this monumental structure. What do the figures within the monument signify, and why was the Monument to the Battle of the Nations considered the most ambitious monument project of the German Empire? These and other questions will be answered during our introductory tour of one of Leipzig’s most fascinating buildings.
We recommend arriving at the ticket office approximately 15 minutes before the tour begins. Groups of ten or more people, or groups requesting a tour in English, should book an exclusive appointment through the Visitor Services.

Mixed Feelings in Times of War – An Artistic Intervention at the Monument to the Battle of the Nations
In cooperation with krudebude e.V.
Framed by Anti-War Day and the International Day of Peace, the Monument to the Battle of the Nations becomes a site for artistic engagement with the so-called *Zeitenwende* (watershed moment). The Leipzig-based collective krudebude creates a space for experience where we can confront the crisis-ridden present: What does this “watershed moment” actually mean for us personally? What impact does it have on our present and our vision of the future? What offers hope? What gives us courage? And how can we remain capable of action in the context of war and crisis?
The project is accompanied by an artistic supporting program.

Dance Performance: Clara Sjölin and Team
For the intervention “Mixed Feelings – An Artistic Intervention in Times of War,” Clara Sjölin has developed a site-specific dance performance for five performers. It unfolds as a real-time negotiation process between command and individual execution, questioning what is expected of a “disciplined body.” At the same time, it explores how a sense of togetherness can emerge through shared movement.
Clara Sjölin is a dance artist from Sweden who has worked in various local contexts in Leipzig, focusing on choreography and dance education. She currently works as a dance educator, choreographer, and artistic director of the “Junior Company for Older Adults” at the Leipziger Tanztheater.

UEFA Champions League Special Tour: When the Dutch were French and fought for Napoleon
How important was Napoleon for the history of the Netherlands? Very! After initially installing his brother as King of Holland, Napoleon later completely annexed the Netherlands. The province of Brabant became the department of Bouches-du-Rhin within the French Empire. The Dutch were forced to serve in the French army, including at the 1813 Battle of the Nations.
Join us on this tour to find out about the role the Dutch played in the outcome of history’s biggest battle up to that point. And find out the secrets behind Europe’s biggest monument, built 100 years later, to mark that significant conflict.

UEFA Champions League Special Tour: How Napoleon’s greatest defeat was sealed with British weapons and rockets
What role did British forces play in the Napoleon’s greatest defeat? 150 British soldiers took part in the 1813 Battle of the Nations. This may be a fraction of the 560,000 total soldiers, but the British were equipped with cutting-edge weapons that made their enemies quake with fear: rocket artillery. This was the first time this new weapon saw action in a land battle.
Discover through original objects the role these troops played and how much of the anti-Napoleon coalition was armed with British weaponry. Find out why Napoleon’s defeat at Leipzig is deemed more significant than Waterloo and how Europe’s biggest monument marks this.

Concert with the Leipzig Chamber Choir: תקיעה – Hope and new beginnings
An existential journey through seven stages of darkness, lament, and consolation: Jewish and Christian perspectives break through the monument’s stony rigidity, guiding the voices on their path through the space. From the ghetto lullaby “Unter Dayne Vayse Shtern” in the depths of the crypt, through the luminous breakthrough of synagogue psalms by Sulzer and Lewandowski, to the distant, atmospheric soundscapes of Reger and Cornelius in the dome, the architecture is completely immersed in a vertical dialogue. This journey of renewal culminates not in a loud triumph, but—in the monumental finale of Eric Whitacre’s “When David Heard”—in a deeply moving, shared act of weeping.
